2018 has certainly delivered for the Fishing Group. The new season started with the annual trophy award BBQ / social party where the successes of last season were celebrated and some of the stories of failure repeated again for good humour.
Whilst the bar was set high for this year the group is enthusiastic for the challenge. Last month saw two successful group fishing trips, one in the bay and one offshore; both producing some quality catches of snapper, sweetlips and a variety of other surprises. The bay has also produced some great catches of mackerel and prawns and even a life time personal-best snapper for our very own Snapper Guru, a mighty fish for the bay at 82cm / 5.4kg.
Friendly competition within the group is encouraged however our main focus is on sharing our knowledge about fishing techniques and experiences for the benefit of the group. We were pleased to welcome the Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol and Queensland Marine Parks to our March meeting. This was a great opportunity to learn more about the important work these guys do to maintain this great fishery and something we look forward to repeating with other organisations in the coming months.
Keep an eye on the Fishing Group notice board outside the club entrance if you are keen to join in the fishing action or just wish to socialise with some friendly anglers.
